I find the holidays to be pure magic. Growing up, Christmas was always such a magical time of year. Christmas always began with pulling out the fake Christmas tree that my parents had stored away and putting it together as a family. Year after year, we would reminisce over the many special ornaments that had such special memories as we placed them on the tree. Outside of the home, we always decorated with twinkling, multi-colored, moving Christmas lights. It was a really festive time enjoyed by all. My parents owned a retail business, so Christmas was a very busy time for them as well. As owners of a retail business, not only did December bring chaos and busy schedules, but, also great rewards financially. Hence, everyone in the family was always buoyant, happy and excited. Along with the bustle, the atmosphere was always vibrant and full of energy.
Fast-forward to now, twenty-plus years later, and I am now a mom of two beautiful children. I still love every single aspect of the holidays. For me, Christmas started with a tree and one box of Target ornaments when I first got married ten years ago. It has now evolved into the merry Shivani Christmas Extravanganza that is happening this year. I thought I would have a little fun and share some photos of all of the fun things that we have created this holiday season. My sister Neha has been in town for a few weeks and she helped me go through all of the big red plastic boxes that I store all of my fun, holiday décor in. Ninety percent of what you see in my photos I already owned, which I know is crazy. The last ten percent I purchased when I hit up a couple of stores in the area to grab some last minute items I needed to pull it all together.
This holiday season has already left me with many special memories and magical times. One thing that was really magical and special to me this year was creating a Butterfly Christmas Tree with my sister. I think it is absolutely gorgeous and hope you find it to be so as well. Another magical moment was creating a red and gold, traditional-looking Christmas tree in our family room with my daughter. My daughter placed all of the ornaments on the tree that were 5 feet and lower and I did all of the ornaments above. It was very special to have my little one as excited about Christmas as I am and for her to thoroughly enjoy creating all of these different memories that we want to share with our families. I have a really large family on both my side and my husband’s sides. It feels so incredible to put together a Christmas experience that I think everyone will enjoy: from the holiday music, the hot chocolate, the hot apple cider, the delicious food that I had catered, to the many fun Christmas activities I have planned. Some of the activities planned are decorating Gingerbread houses, ornament decorating, decorating sugar cookies and using our imaginations to create fun new hot chocolate concoctions. For me, investing time in putting Christmas together for our families is really an expression of love. It is a time for me to create a magical and fun experience for the people that I love.
